| Obverse description | Central field dominated by bold Arabic calligraphic inscription in raised relief, arranged across two registers and divided by a horizontal line, with the name and titles of the Mughal emperor Shah Alam II rendered in characteristic Kotah style. The field is further ornamented with groups of raised pellets distributed in the upper portions of each quadrant, a decorative device typical of Kotah Mint issues. The flan is irregular and slightly uneven, consistent with hand-hammered manufacture. The legends are deeply struck and prominent against the flat field, with no border or decorative rim evident. |
