Additional information

Nader Mirza was a grandson of the Afsharid founder Nader Shah, operating as a local ruler in Khorasan during a period when central authority in Iran had effectively collapsed. By 1802, the Qajar dynasty under Fath Ali Shah was consolidating power across the country, and Mashhad — seat of the Imam Reza shrine and the most politically significant city in eastern Iran — was a target. Nader Mirza's coinage from this moment is less a declaration of strength than a desperate assertion of legitimacy.

The mint at Mashhad changed hands repeatedly in these years. His tenure there was short.
