| Obverse description | Central field occupied by a large lobed and pointed cartouche of Persian nasta'liq calligraphy, the inscription reading 'Sultan Nadir' in bold, deeply struck relief. The cartouche is framed by a decorative scalloped border with floral embellishments. The surrounding field is flat and largely plain, consistent with the hammered coinage tradition of the Afsharid period. The overall design is characteristic of the regional rupee coinage struck at Mashhad under Nader Mirza Afshar. |
