The legend references the Vereenigde Oost-Indische Compagnie (VOC) heritage of the coinage, even as issued under the successor Batavian Republic administration. The plain, uncluttered field and strong relief of the lettering are characteristic of Surabaya mint production of this period. No date or mint mark appears on this side. |
