A circular Cyrillic legend surrounds the effigy, reading Б•М• АЛЕКСАНДРЪ I ИМП И САМОД•ВСЕРОСС•, denoting his imperial and autocratic titles by the grace of God, with the mint mark СПБ appearing at the lower portion of the legend.
