| Obverse description | Central facing bust of Christ Pantocrator, nimbate with a cross nimbus decorated with two or three pellets in each limb, rendered in Byzantine style. Christ is depicted wearing a tunic and himation, his right hand raised in benediction and his left hand holding the Book of Gospels. The surrounding legend reads '+IhS XPS REX REGNANTIчM' with the year '1988' incorporated into the field, consistent with a modern replica issue. |

| Additional information |
A modern replica of the Byzantine gold solidus issued under Constantine VII Porphyrogennetos, who co-ruled with his father-in-law Romanos I Lekapenos before having him deposed and exiled to a monastery in 944. The original type introduced the facing bust of Christ as the primary obverse motif on Byzantine gold — a departure that influenced imperial coinage for centuries. This 1988 piece is a restrike or reproduction with no monetary authority behind it.
