| Opis awersu | Central field displays the crowned royal cipher of João I (IhnS) above the mint letter L, all set within a small disk or shield-like compartment. The cipher is surmounted by a royal crown, with optional secret marks (annulets or mullets) flanking the crown on either side. The entire central device is enclosed within two concentric circular legends rendered in uncial Latin lettering, the inner and outer rings forming a distinctive double-border frame typical of late 14th-century Portuguese hammered coinage. |
