The quinarius aureus — struck at half the weight of a standard aureus — was rarely produced under the Julio-Claudians, making any surviving example from Tiberius's reign numerically scarce. By tribunician year XXVIII, Tiberius had already withdrawn to Capri, leaving Sejanus effectively in control of Rome; the administrative machinery of the mint continued, but imperial oversight was conducted at a considerable remove.
