| Reverse description | The central field depicts a stylized reliquary or monstrance, shown upright with a tiered base and a crenellated or windowed upper register housing the sacred relic of the patron saint. The circular Latin legend SANCTVS QVIRINVS runs around the periphery of the flan, invoking Saint Quirinus, the patron saint of Correggio. The design is typical of devotional imagery found on small-denomination hammered copper coins of Italian lordships in the sixteenth century. The flan is irregular and worn, with patchy green cuprite patina obscuring portions of the peripheral legend. |
