| Beschrijving keerzijde | A winged caduceus, the herald's staff associated with Mercury and symbolic of peace and commerce, depicted upright and centrally placed in the field. The staff is rendered with stylized wings spread at the top and intertwined serpents along the shaft. To the left and right of the caduceus appear the large senatorial authorization marks S and C (Senatus Consultum), flanking the device in the field. A dotted border runs around the coin's inner edge, framing the design. The overall composition is bold and well-centered, typical of official Roman senatorial bronze issues. |

The quadrans occupied the lowest rung of Roman bronze coinage, worth one quarter of an as, and by Nerva's reign was largely a coin of the bathhouses — admission to public thermae was priced specifically to require them. Nerva's brief rule, just fifteen months before his death in January 98, produced a limited quadrans output. RIC II 112 is among the final issues attributable to his reign, struck in the months immediately preceding Trajan's accession.
