A dotted border runs around the coin's inner edge, framing the design. The overall composition is bold and well-centered, typical of official Roman senatorial bronze issues. |

The quadrans occupied the lowest rung of Roman bronze coinage, worth one quarter of an as, and by Nerva's reign was largely a coin of the bathhouses — admission to public thermae was priced specifically to require them. Nerva's brief rule, just fifteen months before his death in January 98, produced a limited quadrans output. RIC II 112 is among the final issues attributable to his reign, struck in the months immediately preceding Trajan's accession.
