| Beschrijving keerzijde | The large senatorial authorisation monogram S C (Senatus Consultum) dominates the central field, flanked by the moneyers' names and abbreviated titles in a circular Latin legend around the periphery. The letters S and C are rendered in a bold, open style typical of Augustan quadrantes. The reverse legend records the full titles of the moneyers Messalla and Gallus as tresviri auro argento aere flando feriundo, denoting their responsibility for the casting and striking of coinage in all metals. The flan is irregular and the surfaces show the characteristic patination and corrosion of hammered bronze coinage of this period. |
