| Beschrijving keerzijde | A prominent upward-pointing crescent occupies the central field, its horns directed skyward, flanked and surmounted by three pellet-stars arranged symmetrically — one above the crescent between the horns and one to each side. The municipal legend BALLEIA is inscribed around the periphery in Latin characters, reading circularly around the design. The overall composition is characteristic of the astral symbolism commonly employed by Hispano-Roman civic mints of the late Republican era. |

Baelo Claudia, the Roman municipium on the southern Iberian coast near modern Tarifa, owed its prosperity almost entirely to garum production — the fermented fish sauce exported across the Mediterranean. This quadrans circulated during a period when the town was transitioning from a Phoenician trading post into a functioning Roman colonial economy, a process accelerated by the Social War and subsequent extensions of citizenship that reshaped municipal coinage authority throughout Hispania.
