| 背面描述 | Central field features a seven-branched menorah (hanukkiah) depicted frontally, with a broad base and seven upward-curving branches rendered in a schematic style consistent with Hasmonean artistic convention. The menorah is flanked by partial Greek inscription in the surrounding field. The flan is chipped and irregular, and the strike shows typical die wear, with the design remaining partially legible. A dotted border frames the design. |

Antigonus II Mattathias was the last Hasmonean ruler, installed by the Parthians after they invaded Judaea in 40 BC and captured his uncle Hyrcanus II — whose ears were reportedly cut off to disqualify him from the high priesthood. Rome backed Herod, and after a three-year war Antigonus surrendered Jerusalem in 37 BC. Mark Antony had him beheaded, an execution method Romans reserved for royalty and considered notable enough that Strabo and Cassius Dio both recorded it as unusual. His coins had a reign of exactly as long as the fight lasted.
