Additional information

Reginald Grenier held Sidon as a vassal of the Kingdom of Jerusalem during one of the most pressured periods in Crusader history — the years bracketing the catastrophic defeat at Hattin in 1187, after which Saladin swept through virtually every Crusader coastal holding in a matter of months. The pougeoise denomination served petty commerce in the Levantine markets, and most examples were used hard. Sidon itself fell to Saladin that same year.
