| Opis rewersu | Central field displays a large floriated Cross of the Order of Christ — a bold, equal-armed cross with expanded, flared terminals — struck in high relief and occupying the majority of the flan within a beaded inner circle. The cross is characteristic of the Portuguese crusading orders and prominently associated with the Age of Discovery coinage. The surrounding circumferential legend in Latin reads the Constantinian motto IN HOC SIGNO VINCES ('In this sign you shall conquer'), separated by a cross at the beginning. The lettering is rendered in a Gothic script consistent with early sixteenth-century Portuguese hammered gold issues. |
