| Obverse description | Central design composed of a cruciform arrangement formed by four Cyrillic letters П (for Pavel), with the Roman numeral I at the centre of the cross. Imperial crowns occupy the four angles between the arms of the cross. The denomination is inscribed in Cyrillic across the arms of the cross, reading ПОЛУ ПОЛТИ ННИКЪ, with the date below. The entire composition is set within the field without a border legend, giving the design a bold, architectural character typical of Pauline-era coinage. |

| Reverse description | A square cartouche frames a four-line Cyrillic inscription drawn from Psalm 115:1 (Vulgate), reading НЕ НАМЪ, НЕ НАМЪ, А ИМЯНИ ТВОЕМУ, meaning 'Not unto us, not unto us, but unto Thy name.' Below the cartouche appear the mint mark and assayer initials С∙М∙ А∙И, identifying the St. Petersburg (Banking) Mint and the responsible assay master. The austere, text-dominated reverse is characteristic of the deeply personal religious symbolism favoured by Emperor Paul I, who adopted this psalm verse as a personal motto. The field outside the cartouche is plain. |
