Obverse description Draped bust of Empress Ekaterina I facing left, her hair elaborately coiffed and adorned with pearls, wearing a low-cut gown with lace trim and a decorative brooch at the décolletage. The effigy is rendered in a baroque style characteristic of early 18th-century Russian portraiture. A circular Cyrillic legend runs continuously around the periphery of the field, separated from the bust by a beaded inner border.
