Obverse description Central shield bearing the arms of the Bishopric of Sion: a crossed sword and crozier over a roundel, surmounted by a fleur-de-lis, all within an oval cartouche. The shield is set within a beaded inner circle. The surrounding legend in Gothic lettering reads PHS·DE PLATE·ELEC` SEDV`, identifying the issuing bishop Philipp de Platea as elect of Sion. The coin is struck by hammer in the late medieval tradition, with characteristic irregular flan.
