| Description de l’avers | Central field displays a crowned royal cipher composed of an interlaced double 'H' (for Henri) surmounted by a royal crown, with a fleur-de-lis pendant below the monogram. A circular Geneva counterstamp punch, applied in 1592, is visible to the left of the royal cipher, partially overlapping the field. The circumferential Latin legend reading '+ HENRICVS. III. D: G. FRAN. ET. POL. REX' encircles the design, identifying the issuer as Henry III, King of France and Poland by the grace of God. The coin shows significant wear and surface patination consistent with circulation use. The overall design is typical of the hammered coinage of the French royal mint in the late sixteenth century. |

| Description du revers | Central field features a long decorative cross with fleurs-de-lis at each terminal, a common motif on French royal coinage of the period. At the top of the cross, within an oval or circular incuse counterstamp applied by the City of Geneva in 1592, the Christogram 'IHS' is prominently struck, validating the coin for local circulation as a Pignatelle. The surrounding circumferential Latin legend reads 'P .SIT. NOMEN. DOMINI. BENEDICTVM. 1585 IHS', referencing the date of original minting and invoking the blessed name of the Lord. The coin exhibits heavy wear, with parts of the legend obscured by corrosion and edge damage. The reverse design is consistent with the standard reverse type of Henri III douzains struck at French royal mints. |
