Friesach pfennigs — the broad, thin bracteate-influenced denars struck in Carinthia from the late twelfth century onward — functioned as the dominant trade currency across a surprisingly wide arc of central and southeastern Europe, circulating actively in Hungary, Bohemia, and the Adriatic coastal markets well beyond their region of issue. The "undetermined" minting attribution here is honest: Friesach-type pfennigs were struck by multiple authorities simultaneously, including the Archbishops of Salzburg, the Dukes of Carinthia, and various ecclesiastical lessees, often at overlapping facilities, making clean attribution genuinely difficult without die-study evidence.
