| Beschrijving voorzijde | A Friesacher Pfennig struck as a bracteate-style thin hammered flan exhibiting a stylized architectural and figural design within a beaded inner circle. At center, a frontal facing bust or head is depicted beneath a rounded arch supported by two lateral wings or volutes, characteristic of the Friesach mint's Romanesque-influenced die-cutting tradition. Above the arch, a cross or tower-like element surmounted by a small finial appears in the upper field, flanked by pellets or stylized foliate motifs. The overall composition is rendered in low relief with bold, simplified lines typical of late 13th-century Austrian episcopal coinage. No legible legend is present, the design itself serving as the primary attribution device. |
