Beschrijving voorzijde Within a beaded inner circle, the rampant Bohemian lion passant-rampant to sinister, depicted with a crowned head, bifurcated tail, and boldly rendered claws, flanked on either side by a crenellated tower. The design is struck in high relief typical of mid-13th-century Austrian bracteate-influenced pfennig coinage, with no surrounding legend. The field is plain, and the flan is irregular as characteristic of hammered medieval coinage from the St. Veit mint.

Aanvullende informatie

Ottokar II of Bohemia held Carinthia through a combination of inheritance, political maneuvering, and outright force, but his grip on the duchy was always contested. His coins struck at St. Veit — the traditional minting seat of Carinthian rulers — functioned as instruments of territorial assertion as much as anything else. He lost Carinthia to Rudolf of Habsburg in 1276, the same year this issue ceases.
