The design is struck in high relief typical of mid-13th-century Austrian bracteate-influenced pfennig coinage, with no surrounding legend. The field is plain, and the flan is irregular as characteristic of hammered medieval coinage from the St. Veit mint. |

Ottokar II of Bohemia held Carinthia through a combination of inheritance, political maneuvering, and outright force, but his grip on the duchy was always contested. His coins struck at St. Veit — the traditional minting seat of Carinthian rulers — functioned as instruments of territorial assertion as much as anything else. He lost Carinthia to Rudolf of Habsburg in 1276, the same year this issue ceases.
