Rann-type bracteates from Salzburg occupy an awkward historiographical position — technically pfennigs, structurally closer to the thin-flan traditions spreading east from Thuringia during the late twelfth century. This piece spans the joint and successive administrations of Eberhard II and Leopold VI, a period defined by Salzburg's persistent friction with the Babenberg dukes and the Archbishop's eventual excommunication in 1226 amid disputes over ecclesiastical authority in the region.
CNA Ck37 is among the better-documented types from this mint sequence, but attribution between the two rulers remains provisional in many collections.
