Additional information

Berthold V, a Bavarian-born member of the Andechs-Meranien dynasty, held the patriarchate from 1218 until his death in 1251 — one of the longer and more politically turbulent tenures in Aquileia's medieval history. His coinages were struck across multiple mints as the patriarchate asserted temporal authority over a contested stretch of the northeastern Italian march. Windischgrätz, now Slovenj Gradec in modern Slovenia, was among the secondary mint towns operating under patriarchal license during this period.

The CNA Ch18 classification places this among the bracteate-influenced thin silver issues common to the region's transitional coinage — struck on broad, fragile flans that rarely survive without bends or edge losses.
