The central device is enclosed within a double circular border, between which runs a wreath or chain of rings forming a decorative collar around the perimeter. Bernard II ruled Carinthia from 1202 until his death in 1256, and his bracteate-style pfennigs from the Landstraß mint reflect the fragmented monetary output typical of the Carinthian duchies during the Hohenstaufen period. Landstraß — modern-day Kostanjevica na Krki in Slovenia — was a relatively minor ducal mint, and issues attributable specifically to it survive in small numbers. The CNA Cn8 attribution places this firmly within Castelin's systematic organization of Austrian medieval bracteates.
