Albrecht II — called "the Lame" due to a paralytic condition that confined him largely to Vienna from the 1330s onward — nonetheless oversaw a consolidation of Habsburg coinage that standardized the pfennig as the dominant small denomination across Austrian ducal territory. His long reign produced substantial mint output from Vienna, though surviving examples are frequently found clipped, a reflection of the endemic silver-shaving that plagued Central European petty coinage throughout the fourteenth century.
