John of Heinsberg's tenure as Prince-Bishop coincided with persistent monetary disorder across the Low Countries, and the petit brûlé was effectively a debasement coinage — billion so base it was little more than copper with a silver wash. The name itself, "little burned one," refers to the fire-gilding or surface treatment applied to give these pieces a momentarily acceptable appearance in circulation.
Dengis 664 is among the more frequently encountered varieties of John's chaotic petit monnaies, though survivors in any meaningful state of surface preservation are genuinely scarce given the fragility of the billion alloy.
