Obverse description Central field features a cross moline design enclosed within a raised inner circle or annulet border. The cross moline displays splayed and curved terminals characteristic of Viking-Age Anglo-Scandinavian coinage. A circular outer legend surrounds the central device, reading the ruler's name in separated dot-punctuated Latin lettering. The hammered flan is slightly irregular in shape, typical of tenth-century Viking York production. The overall style reflects the insular Anglo-Saxon die-cutting tradition adapted under Scandinavian rule.
