The moneyer's name is inscribed in Latin capitals around the circumference between the inner circle and the outer rim. The legend attributes the coin to the moneyer Herolf and identifies him as a monetarius, consistent with Anglo-Saxon mint practice. The hammered fabric shows the typical irregular flan shape of late tenth-century English pennies. |
