Reverse description A small cross pattée occupies the center of the field within a plain inner circle, mirroring the obverse design in the characteristic Small Cross type fashion. The moneyer's name is inscribed in Latin capitals around the circumference between the inner circle and the outer rim. The legend attributes the coin to the moneyer Herolf and identifies him as a monetarius, consistent with Anglo-Saxon mint practice. The hammered fabric shows the typical irregular flan shape of late tenth-century English pennies.
