| Beschrijving voorzijde | Facing crowned effigy of King Stephen, depicted with a diademed and draped bust rendered in the Romanesque style typical of Anarchy-period coinage. The king's face is shown frontally with stylized facial features, wearing an ornate crown with pellet decoration. The bust is flanked by sceptres or other royal regalia in the fields to either side. A circular legend surrounds the effigy, reading + STIEFNE, identifying the monarch. |

| Beschrijving keerzijde | A bold cross pattee occupies the centre of the reverse, with a small central annulet at the intersection of the arms. Each of the four angles formed by the cross contains a fleur-de-lis or lis ornament, lending the design a decorative quality characteristic of mid-twelfth-century English pennies. The whole is enclosed within a beaded inner circle, with the moneyer's legend arranged around the periphery. The strike is typical of provincial Midlands production during the civil war period. |
