Erik II — "Erik Emune," or Erik the Memorable — seized the Danish throne after the murder of Niels at Schleswig in 1134, a killing he orchestrated personally following the Battle of Fodevig. His reign lasted only three years before his own assassination in 1137 at Ribe, making coinage attributable to this period exceptionally scarce. Hauberg's attribution rests on stylistic and find-site evidence rather than any documentary mint record, and the assignment remains among the more contested in early Danish numismatics.
