| Beschrijving keerzijde | Central device comprises the Portuguese royal arms — an oval shield bearing the traditional quinas (five escutcheons arranged in a cross) — surmounted by a royal crown with cross finial and flanked by a plain oval cartouche border. The denomination numeral 40 is placed prominently in the lower field beneath the shield. The circular peripheral legend UTILITATI PUBLICÆ surrounds the central device, and the entire design is framed by a finely dentilated rim consistent with a milled pattern strike. |
