The parpaiolle was a regional billon denomination that circulated widely across the western Alpine piedmont during the fifteenth century, minted by a patchwork of secular and ecclesiastical lords whose monetary rights were perpetually contested. Georges de Saluces held the see of Lausanne from 1440 until his death in 1461, a tenure marked by ongoing friction with the House of Savoy over jurisdictional boundaries — including the right to strike coin. His issues reflect that precarious autonomy: episcopally authorized but produced within a monetary geography dominated by Savoyard influence.
