Obverse description Central shield bearing the quartered arms of the Bishopric of Lausanne, enclosed within a beaded inner circle. Atop the shield, a seated figure of the Madonna and Child is depicted in high relief, flanked by decorative elements. The composition is contained within a trefoil-arched surround. The surrounding field carries the Marian Ave Maria legend in Gothic uncial lettering, separated by colons. The overall style is characteristic of late medieval ecclesiastical coinage of the Savoyard region.
