Mustafa I's second reign lasted barely a year — restored to the throne in February 1622 after the janissaries murdered Osman II, he was himself deposed again by May 1623. The coinage struck during this chaotic interval reflects an administration with no real governing authority, as power sat with the military factions who had just executed a sitting sultan for attempting to break their grip on the state.
The onluk denomination saw irregular production across this period, and examples attributable specifically to the second reign are distinguished by regnal year in the toughra rather than by any mint innovation.
