| Obverse description | Draped bust of a ruler facing right, wearing a Macedonian-style crested helmet, closely imitating the coinage of the Bactrian king Eucratides I. The die-cutting is rendered in a barbarized yet recognizable Hellenistic style, with the facial features and helmet crest schematically rendered. The legend, giving the name of the issuing chieftain Sapadbizes in Greek characters, is distributed around the bust in the field. The overall composition reflects deliberate emulation of Greco-Bactrian royal portraiture by a Central Asian nomadic authority. |
