Obverse description Concave, essentially blank field with a deeply dished, uninscribed surface characteristic of the incuse obverse type associated with Celtic hammered coinage. The flan exhibits irregular flow lines and surface striations from the striking process, with no discernible figurative motif, consistent with the Roseldorf II obol series produced by the Boii. No legend or inscription is present.

Additional information

The Boii occupied a broad swathe of central Europe — Bohemia takes its name from them — before Roman and Dacian pressure collapsed their political structures in the late first century BC. Their coinage tradition borrowed heavily from Macedonian prototypes but evolved into increasingly abstract local forms. The Roseldorf II type takes its name from the cult and assembly site at Roseldorf in Lower Austria, where significant concentrations of Boian coins have been excavated, suggesting ritual deposition rather than ordinary loss.
