The Greek legend ΠΤΟΛΕΜΑΙΟΥ ΒΑΣΙΛΕΩΣ, meaning 'of King Ptolemy,' is arranged in the field flanking the eagle, a formulaic inscription standard across Ptolemaic bronze denominations. The design is executed in the robust, somewhat schematic style characteristic of high-volume hammered bronze production of the period. |
