Margaret of Burgundy acquired Tonnerre through her first marriage to Eudes of Grancey and administered the county independently following his death, issuing coinage in her own name during a period when female comital authority over mints was far from guaranteed. Her issues from Tonnerre are among the more obscure billon fractions of Burgundian feudal coinage, with PA#5861 one of the thinner-documented references in Poey d'Avant's corpus.
