| Beschrijving voorzijde | Central field dominated by a large pattée cross with expanding arms, the angles between the arms filled with small decorative fleurs or pellets typical of feudal billon coinage. The cross divides the field into four quarters. A circular Latin legend surrounds the design, reading M REG SICILIE, identifying Margaret as Queen of Sicily. The lettering is irregularly spaced and characteristic of hand-engraved dies of the late 13th century. The overall style reflects the crude but distinctive hammered coinage of the County of Tonnerre. |
