Reverse description A skyphos (a deep two-handled wine cup) depicted in outline, facing forward, with both lateral handles clearly visible and the broad body of the vessel dominating the central field. The design is boldly engraved and fills the compact flan. The ethnic legend of the issuing authority is distributed around the skyphos in Greek characters, reading ΚΟ Τ Υ, an abbreviation for Kotys, the Odrysian king. The reverse composition is typical of Thracian coinage associating royal authority with Dionysiac symposiastic imagery.
