| Reverse description | A plain Latin cross with equal arms occupies the central field, set within a beaded inner circle. The arms of the cross extend nearly to the beaded border, with the field between the arms left plain. The surrounding legend, introduced by a cross pattée, reads SCI GAVGERICI M, identifying the monastery of Saint Gaugericus (Saint Géry) at Cambrai as the issuing authority. The overall strike is characteristic of Carolingian ecclesiastical coinage, with an irregular flan and variable depth of relief. |
