| Beschrijving voorzijde | Central field displays a stylized castle or tower motif in high relief, rendered in the crude yet characteristic Romanesque style typical of mid-thirteenth-century feudal coinage. The architectural device, possibly a donjon or fortified tower, rises prominently from the coin's center and serves as the primary heraldic emblem of the county. A circular legend in uncial Latin script surrounds the central device, reading BOCARD COMES, identifying the issuing count Bouchard V of Vendôme. The flan is irregular and slightly broader on one side, as expected of hammered medieval small coinage. The overall strike is uneven, with some areas of weakness at the periphery. |
