Pheneos was an Arcadian city-state nestled in a high inland basin, geographically isolated enough that its coinage circulated almost exclusively within local exchange networks rather than broader Peloponnesian trade. The city's mint output was modest by any measure, and fractional silver of this type survives in very small numbers — BCD Peloponnesos 1599 represents one of the more carefully documented specimens in modern scholarship on the series.
