| 表面の説明 | Facing bull's head rendered in high relief, with the muzzle prominently modeled and the curling hair of the forehead depicted in tight ringlets. The ears project laterally and the eyes are deeply set, conveying a powerful, naturalistic presence characteristic of the Phokian federal coinage. The treatment of the surface texture reflects accomplished archaic die-cutting. The letters Φ and O appear in the field, serving as an abbreviated ethnic denoting the Phokian federation. |

| 裏面の説明 | Forepart of a boar advancing to the left, rendered in a bold archaic style with the bristled spine and snout carefully detailed. An olive-sprig appears to the left of the boar, symbolizing the agricultural and sacred character of the region. The entire design is set within a shallow incuse square, a hallmark of early Greek coinage technique. The field is otherwise plain, focusing attention on the compact figural composition. |

Phokis held the guardianship of Delphi — and its considerable treasury — a fact that made the region a recurring military target. The First Sacred War had ended roughly a century earlier, but control of the sanctuary remained politically explosive. This obol circulates within the decade of the Second Sacred War, during which Sparta briefly transferred Delphic control to the Phokians themselves, only for Athens to reverse that arrangement shortly after. The federal coinage of Phokis is notably sparse precisely because the league's fortunes shifted so rapidly under external pressure from both major powers.
