The obol denomination in Thessaly during this period was functional small change, used in local markets rather than interstate commerce, which means most examples saw hard use before disappearing from the record entirely.
The BCD Thessaly I sale in 2006 brought sustained scholarly attention to exactly these minor Thessalian mints, several of which had been lumped under uncertain attributions for decades prior.
