| Reverse description | Incuse square containing a frontal acorn or bear's head within a shallow incuse depression, consistent with early Arkadian die-cutting practice. The central device — an acorn viewed from above with a granulated cap and smooth body — is rendered in relief within the recessed field, surrounded by the irregular incuse border. To the right of the central device, the abbreviated ethnic legend ΜΑ (for Mantinea) appears in archaic Greek characters. The incuse technique reflects the Aeginetic tradition prevalent in the Peloponnesos during this period. |
